Welcome to Paddock Pass! Your inside look into all things Formula 1.

Paddock Pass is a semi-annual zine for motorsports enthusiasts and newcomers to the world of Formula 1. From issue to issue, it touches on various aspects of the sport as well as motorsports as a whole; from the history of the sport, the World Champions, the various rules and regulations, motorsports engineering, strategies, job opportunities, lists and details on important races, upcoming races, and more. This February issue is a commemorative edition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Pinnacle of Motorsport, and focuses on the history of Formula 1 from it’s beginnings in 1950 to, today, in 2025.
Formula 1 feels larger than life itself, at the top of its field and at the top of the world, but this zine aims to offer opportunities or articles that express that there are ways for the average middle-class person to delve into the world and partake in whatever way inspires them. This zine strives to connect a community and build a strong foundation through promoting a message centered on the passion, innovation, history, and community of Formula 1, its teams, and its fans.

Finding a balance between strong, bold, colour-pop choices that reflect the excitement of Formula 1 and professional, easily-legible, and concise choices that reflect its professionalism as the peak of motorsport is of vast importance. The use of colour in Paddock Pass is tasteful and well thought out through its sparce application in backgrounds, titles, headings, and any other location that deems it appropriate. There are no collages or collections of overlapping items, text, or photographs and, instead, layouts will allow the full content or image to be displayed and appreciated in full. Similarly to the precision of Formula 1, Paddock Pass takes a more structured allowance with its margins. The only elements that break the margins and reach the edge of the pages are the images. Every page and spread should follow this same rule in order to keep consistency while the content of each page is allowed more creative freedom within these guidelines, depending on the article’s content.
Paddock Pass uses mainly sans-serif typefaces in order to lean into the strong feel of sports and motorsports engineering. A striking and structured typeface in capitals is used for the zine title typeface and logo, reflecting the bold intensity and precision of the sport while a more simplistic and easy to read typeface is used for the body type. Sometimes, decorative typefaces are used sparingly for some headings or special call-outs in the pages. Type setting and paragraph structure is consistent to the brand but has space to fluctuate creatively based on the content of each article and its message.
